Kids Learn Character Traits by Modeling Adults

Teaching character traits can be tricky unless you're comfortable with yourself.

I think the best way to teach children character traits is by example.

I taught at a science camp for two years, and I learned quite a lot about they way children think and act.

They very much follow by example and imitate the leader of the group (me). This is why I always kept a calm demeanor around them even when they were riled up and excited.

By the end of each week each camper that I taught had learned that being able to carry oneself with calm composure demands a certain amount of respect from others.

On a contrasting note, I reminded the kids I taught the importance of humor, and being able to laugh at oneself. I truly believe that laughter releases emotions that get built up, and it’s good to have a good for the soul to have a good laugh from time to time.

Overall, teaching character building to a child depends on balancing a disciplined lifestyle with a carefree lifestyle.
