Kids Art Activities - A Smorgasbord of Choices

Many kids art activities can be selected depending on the season. Summer activities for kids vary widely from winter art activities for kids or autumn art activities for kids.

If you live in the city, taking your kids for a walk by a river or lake, or even the ocean if possible, allows kids to sense the wonder of nature, the awesome beauty of natural colors in plants and flowers.

There are many free art activities for kids that you can take advantage of, without excessive effort.

Your kids can make a collage from the multi-colored leaves that fall in many parts of the USA during autumn.

Or, if you live in an area where there is no changing of the leaves, perhaps your child can join a pen pal club and request someone to send her some leaves for an autumn art project.

When walking along a river one of the kids art activities is to search for different size rock and stones along the water's edge or even at the bottom of a shallow part of the river or lake.

Have your child make up a story about the stones she finds, with each stone playing a role in a family. If the stones are big enough, you can bring a few home and then she can paint faces on the stones or just add a few markings of her choosing.

If you don't want to bother carrying rocks home, have her build small figures by stacking the rocks on top of one another.

Kids art activities that start in nature expose your kids to the natural elements of Mother Earth. As a kid, we used to build grass forts, and although we weren't very artistic by nature, it was a lot of fun.

Using scraps of lumber or small pieces of wood that has fallen from trees lets kids assemble then build. It doesn't have to be fancy, just inspiring your child to be creative and to think outside the box is what you want to do.

Printable Coloring Pages and Educational Coloring Pages

There are so many options these days for drawing and coloring pages because of the internet.

You can download free printable coloring pages as well as finding educational coloring pages where children use critical thinking skills as they color and draw unique, individual creations of their own making.

Here are free sample of printable coloring pages from a book I wrote to be published Spring, 2009.

If your child likes to draw her own illustrations, here are samples from Bingo and Bonner, A Read-Me, Draw-Me Book where kids create their own illustrations based on their understanding of the words on each page of a picture book quality story.
